Development for November

		1 Baby's brain can be seen in fetal photography. Intestines have formed outside the baby (on the umbilical cord) because they can't fit inside yet.	2 Baby weighs 0.07 ounces or 2 grams and is about 0.9 inches or 2.3 cm in length. Click here to see bigger picture!	3	4 Kidneys become functional and baby urinates into amnicotic fluid. Sex organs begin to develop.	5 Baby may begin moving, though it's much too small to feel yet.
6 10 wks LMP (8 wks gestation) You may notice your gums are swollen and bleeding when you brush your teeth. This is from hormones and increased blood flow.	7 Oh my aching back! Some women experience sciatic-nerve pain (a pain in the rear end or legs): see a healthcare provider for treatment and read the link for more information!	8 There is about one ounce of amniotic fluid. Fingers and toes become more distinct. Baby weighs 0.14 ounces or 4 grams. Baby is 1.22 inches or 3.1 cm in length.	9	10	11 THREE YEAR WEDDING ANNIVERSARY!	12 The ongoing process of baby's organ development is called organogenesis. Baby's hands are more developed than feet, and arms are longer than legs.
13 11 wks LMP (9 wks gestation) Baby's back straightens and everything continues to grow.	14	15 Mother's develop a large increase in blood content to help the baby: eat foods with lots of protein and iron. Baby's eyelids are shut over developing eyes. Baby weighs 0.25 ounces or 7 grams. Baby is now 1.61 inches or 4.1 cm long.	16	17	18 All went well at today's OB appointment. We heard the fetal heart beating for the first time today at a rate of 160 bpm - which is normal! All is well so far!	19 Bones begin to grow. Ribs and backbone are soft -- they'll harden later.
20 Lunar Month 4, 12 wks LMP (10 wks gestation) You may still be very tired and sick to your stomach. Hopefully this stage will be over soon, but some folks still remain nauseaus and tired for several more weeks.	21 Baby weighs 0.49 ounces or 14 grams. Baby is 2.13 inches or 5.4 cm long.	22 By now external sex organs have usually differentiated.	23 Umbilical cord, carrying nutrients to the baby and the body waste away, is well formed at this point.	24 Thanksgiving in Wisconsin	25 Visit with Brandon and Angel!	26 The placenta weighs about an ounce. It will weigh about 1.5 pounds at birth.
